Jerry Lawless is Professor Emeritus of Statistics at the University of Waterloo. Dr. Lawless received his Ph.D. from the University of Waterloo in 1969 and has been a faculty member there since 1972, serving as Department Chair from 1979-84 as well as 1987-88 and 2004-05. From 1994 to 2004 he was holder of the General Motors Canada - NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Quality and Productivity. His research interests include biostatistics, survival and event history analysis, reliability, regression methodology, and process analysis. He is the author of various papers and the book Statistical Models and Methods for Lifetime Data (John Wiley and Sons, 1982, second edition, 2003), and has served as a consultant to industry and government. Dr. Lawless is a past Editor of Technometrics and a past President of the Statistical Society of Canada. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (1983) and of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (1990), and a recipient of the Gold Medal of the Statistical Society of Canada (1999). He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2000.
